Justin POV
I stood nervously in front of her. She didn't seem to notice me. "Amelia..." I called out her name to divert her attention towards me.
Finding the source of the sound, she looked up at me. Her eyes slightly widened and her lips parted in nervousness. "Yes, Justin?" She replied. I fidgeted with the phone in my hand and said, "T-Thank you for that day... uhh no no... that n-night... I mean t-thanks for treating my wounds. I hope I didn't t-trouble you or said or did anything inappropriate..." I stuttered badly in front of her.
Heck! Since when did I stutter in front of girls?!
"That was the least I could do, Justin. I'll always be there for my friends, no matter what," she said with a little smile. Oh, wait. She said friend? Does she consider me as her friend?
Wait, Justin. We belong to the same friendship group so it's clear that we are friends. But I had never talked to her, so.. Ahh, my overthinking mind sucks!
I passed a tight lip smile and turned to leave. "Justin!" her sweet voice stopped me on my tracks. Huh? Wait. Sweet? Seriously, Justin? Since when did you start complimenting that nerd? I turned around myself to face her.
She took a step forward and said, "Since you were absent yesterday, if you want I can help you with the notes and assignments..."
Oh, yes. I wanted the notes. But I cannot borrow them from her. Reason? There are so many reasons. I don't want to let her be a close friend. Not that I hate her, I just don't trust anyone. Also the whole university knows about my breakup with Erin. If people see me frequently around Amelia, they might think of me as using Amelia to move on.
"No thanks. I already got them from a friend", I answered. She nodded and simply replied with an 'okay' before going back to her seat.
Author POV
Daisy was strolling through the corridors talking to someone on her phone. "Yeah, yeah... We should hang out sometime", she said, barely dodging a guy carrying a life-size model of a skeleton.
"Planning dates already? Who is the poor soul this time?" came a voice from her back- familiar and dramatic. Andrew. The human equivalent of a pop-up ad.
She didn't need to look back. She already knew. Messy hair, confident stride. He matched her stride effortlessly with a boyish grin plastered across his face.
She rolled her eyes and said, "I thought our university was good with pest control." He grinned.
"Careful. With that attitude, someone might think you missed me."
"I didn't. I was hoping you tripped on your own ego and fell into a recycling bin."
Unbothered, he leaned closer, voice oozing with mock curiosity. "So who's Mr. Quiet Location? Should I warn him? Or just send flowers for when he realizes you talk to everyone like they're beneath you?"
She ended the call and gave Andrew a dead-eyed glare. "Jealousy isn't a good look on you, Andrew. Desperation's more your color."
"Oof," he clutched his chest dramatically. "Wounded. Right in the nonexistent heart."
Students passed them, many doing a double take - by now, their mutual snark sessions were practically a spectator sport.
"I'm surprised you can even spell heart," she said, brushing past a startled freshman.
"I can. H-E-R - wait, nope, never mind, it was just heartburn."
She rolled her eyes so hard they nearly filed for worker's comp. "Why are you even here?"
"Coincidence. Fate. Or maybe I just enjoy seeing how high your blood pressure goes when I exist."
She picked up her pace. He followed, still smirking and said, "Tell lover boy I said hi. And that I'm praying for him."
"Oh, I will," she said sweetly.
And just like that, they disappeared down the corridor - her walking away, him walking beside her anyway, like a stormcloud she couldn't quite shake... or a fly with a flirt complex.
In the café
Katherine was sitting quietly scrolling random reels on her instagram while waiting for her friend, who was ordering a meal for both at the counter.
One leg was tucked under her, the other bouncing slightly to the rhythm of whatever song played through her earbuds. She laughed now and then- not loudly but with that kind of unfiltered joy that turned heads and softened hearts. She wasn't performing, she just was. And that, perhaps, was the most captivating thing of all.
"Salut, ma katnado!" came a whisper into her ear. She shivered slightly at the proximity But the sweet romantic feeling in her heart was soon replaced by a cute anger that reflected with a tint of crimson on her nose and cheeks.
"One more time you compare me with a tornado, and I'll make sure you experience a real turbulence", she warned poking his chest with a playful glare.
Ryan, being the lovesick lover boy he always is, for her Katnado, replied with a grin, leaning in closer, "But how else can I describe something that sweeps me off my feet, leaves my world upside down, and makes my heart race like that?"
She tried to hold onto her glare, but a smile betrayed her, curling at the corners of her lips.
"You're impossible."
"And yet, you still haven't run," he whispered, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "Guess that means you like living dangerously."
She sighed dramatically, though the warmth in her gaze gave her away. "Maybe I do. But next time, compare me to something less... destructive. Like... a sunrise. Or a symphony."
He nodded, eyes twinkling. "Fine. You're my sunrise after the darkest night. You're the first notes of a song I never want to end."
She melted then, the teasing edge gone from her voice. "Okay... that one I'll allow."
Katherine's friend saw Ryan on the table and walked to them with the food tray on her hand. "Your food, miss. Enjoy."
She gave a wink to Katherine, while glancing at Ryan. Katherine immediately interrupted, "But you didn't eat anything either."
"Tch. Tch. Focus on the moment, you girl. Don't worry about me", her friend said and turned to leave without giving further any chance for Katherine to speak.
"So, what are we waiting for?" Ryan grinned mischievously at his cute Katnado. She playfully glared at him but couldn't keep up with her glare for a long time looking at the antics of her lovesick lover boy.
Did you like the short conversation between Amelia and Justin? And how about the glimpses of Andrew & and Daisy's cute enemity & Ryan and his Katnado's silly fights?
